The cannas are finally head-high, but it’s taken them a while in this very cool summer on the coast in Southern California.
California is breaking records for cool temps, while record-breaking mostly everywhere else has been going in the other direction, up the thermometer.
But the Xanthosoma ‘Lime Zinger’ and Colocasia ‘Diamond Head’ are slowly, slowly waking up.
The SF Chron today had front page news on the cool temps,including the news that patio heaters were being fired up in the Napa Valley at the al fresco dining establishments..I’d be just fine with this weather on a permanent basis !
One of my generic colocasia that I had given up for dead (winter kill) has just made an appearance. On July 31st! That’s what the cold weather is good for. Oh and lots of green tomatoes. I’m getting a little tired of it myself. Although they may be smaller than your used to your plants all look very showy and healthy!
Loree, the tomatoes are ripening at edible intervals, not all in a rush, but at least they’re ripening. Amazing the colocasia leafed out in late July!
Kathy, I imagine the SoCal beach-goers are pretty disappointed with this summer. There was a huge volleyball tournament in town last weekend.
