Looking east, the biennial Hesperis matronalis was sowed last summer and transplanted all around the garden, and the effort has paid off &#8212; loves the wet soil, is sweetly scented, and covers the ground and blooms early in spring.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCmoK5\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52919914042_751e9bbee7_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7030\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">more hesperis, looking west<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCjpzq\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52919526622_2dbbbdf4eb_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7055\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A few clumps of Eriophyllum lanatum &#8216;Oregon Sunshine&#8217; started blooming this week.  I&#8217;m thinking the dark-leaves are Lysimachia ciliata.  Fence was painted black last weekend.  The geums did not like recent temps into the 90sF but have recovered like it never happened &#8212; same for me!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCq7T1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52920641126_340b776a2b_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7056\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">I&#8217;m a fool for beschornerias.  This one was plunged into the garden, pot and all, to be lifted next fall\/winter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCoM5J\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52920379414_e1e80a758c_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6987\" width=\"572\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Milium effusum &#8216;Aureum&#8217; is an early blooming, moisture-loving grass that I&#8217;d like to spread around.   Lanky silvery leaves are of an overwintered Senecio candicans &#8212; maybe a spring cutback would have produced compact growth?  I didn&#8217;t expect it to survive at all&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCpgNL\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52920476044_9147db94e9_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7073\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">the lewisias are blooming fools<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCktd5\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52919733952_eb36ea3b96_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7020\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">I&#8217;ve got a couple potted hostas and doubt I&#8217;ll be adding more, but they are fascinating as they unfurl their leaves from tight, pirouette-cookie shaped tubes into soft and beamy agave substitutes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCmsLG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52919927592_9b37fe14b1_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7028\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Faced with so much bare ground last spring as stuff slowly filled in, several clumps of fast-growing golden oregano were deployed<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oCpBWD\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52920543781_f5b65825a5_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7038\" width=\"562\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">tetrapanax making size.
