Some of the new plants I ordered for spring became candidates for March Bloom Day literally right out of the box.  Like this Tibouchina granulosa &#8216;Gibraltar&#8217; from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plantdelights.com\/Tibouchina-granulosa-Gibraltar-Gibralter-Variegated-Purple-Glory-Tree\/productinfo\/7631\/\">Plant Delights<\/a>.  This photo was taken the day after it arrived and was unpacked.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/february2012\/227eve003-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every spring this wisteria surges over the fence from a neighbor&#8217;s property, an invader in the southeast corner of the back garden quietly determined to throttle my smoke tree in its tendrils.  Something borrowed and blue (okay, bluish-lilac) to admire when in bloom, but I&#8217;m always grateful that it&#8217;s somebody else&#8217;s problem the rest of the year.   The more I hack it back off our fence, the better it blooms.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/31412photo2597-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just brought this one home last weekend, a Proven Winner&#8217;s selection, Didelta carnosa \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDawn.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122  The radioactive chrome yellow daisies must be endured for a brief time, when things will hopefully quiet down to just some fine-looking succulent, silvery leaves and chartreuse bracts.  Bought on a whim but looks promising. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/31412photo2620-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Begonia luxurians has been blooming the past few months, though I never think to grab a photo for Bloom Day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve049-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Always a few mystery plants in bloom, like this unnamed, green-flowered begonia just in time for St. Patrick&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve044-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mystery senecio<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/february2012\/31morning023-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scrophularia calliantha from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anniesannuals.com\/plt_lst\/lists\/search\/lst.srch.asp?prodid=3638&#038;srch_term=scrophularia\">Annie&#8217;s Annuals &#038; Perennials<\/a> planted in fall started blooming late February.  A big, boragey, salvia-esque plant with exacting water needs even in a large container.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/february2012\/31morning003-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The annual toadflax, Linaria reticulata, a good choice for a zone 10 winter, seen here with the spears of Senecio anteuphorbium.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve039-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Angelica pachycarpa.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve013-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>Lots of salvias in bloom now, including &#8216;Wendy&#8217;s Wish.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve018-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Drakensberg Carmine&#8217; gerberas have been prodigious bloomers over the winter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/february2012\/31morn016.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>March will probably see the last of the coronilla blooms.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve004-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thanks as always to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maydreamsgardens.com\/2012\/03\/garden-bloggers-bloom-day-march-2012.html\">Bloom Day<\/a> on the 15th of every month.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/march2012\/314eve066-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/big><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A dead car battery after work has me skidding and sliding to make the Bloom Day deadline.
