Garden Dry Design &#038; Cliff Garten Studio<\/em>.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>Blurbs like these on a one-page map were the only guides to selecting which homes and gardens to tour among the 32 on offer.  Any gardens described as &#8220;minimalist,&#8221; &#8220;simple&#8221; or &#8220;zen,&#8221; or worse yet, &#8220;simple and zen&#8221; were scratched off the list.  And who knows?  Maybe we missed some simple, zen gems.  Because the garden at No. 9 on the tour was both simple and minimalist, a tidy space for entertaining and relaxation nestled between the house and studio.<\/p>\n<p>Corrugated steel-clad studio, wisteria arbor, decks, raised beds for vegetables, lawn.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4532.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d have taken it all in with one appreciative glance, pivoted, and headed for the next stop on the tour, if not for the interior of the house.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4598.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>And the undulating room divider built by owner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cliffgartenstudio.com\/\">Cliff Garten<\/a> of plywood and maple veneer.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4575.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh, amber waves!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4544.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the chairs!  Two High Sticking chairs by Frank Gehry head either end of the dining table.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4551.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For a devoted fan of chairs, this was a seriously heady encounter. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4535.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t often get the chance to gawk at a Frank Gehry Power Play chair.<br \/>\nAt least we have an appreciation for hockey in common, Mr. Gehry (<small>Go, LA Kings!<\/small>) <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4578.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7231\/7000772040_b72f059c2d_z.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" alt=\"5512venicetour 383\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m guessing this stunner is an Otto Wagner.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7225\/7000768220_ee61dca27c_z.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" alt=\"5512venicetour 374\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The blonde-on-blonde, goldeny tones of wood in the dining area turn sherbert on the other side of the screen with lime-green kitchen cabinets and multi-colored Arne Jacobsen chairs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4568.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7177\/7000776020_5311e14197_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"388\" alt=\"5512venicetour 393\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/venice2012watermarked\/_MG_4566.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More light play.
