{"id":2969,"date":"2010-04-20T13:34:38","date_gmt":"2010-04-20T17:34:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=2969"},"modified":"2011-03-14T12:44:02","modified_gmt":"2011-03-14T16:44:02","slug":"into-white","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=2969","title":{"rendered":"Into White"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A simple garden with acres of sky<\/em>.<br \/>\n<big><br \/>\nFearing I had carelessly brought in more white flowers than is sensible, it turns out it wasn&#8217;t much of a white-out after all, except maybe with the camera.<br \/>\nFor me, it&#8217;d be impossible to photograph this diascia without the euphorbia leaning in.  Probably the white diascia &#8216;Ice Cracker&#8217;.  The euphorbia is &#8216;Ascot Rainbow&#8217;:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/?action=view&#038;current=mon41910032.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/mon41910032.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Focusing solely on color can make gardening seem like interior design that fights back, when of course gardens are so much more.<br \/>\n(The house is getting that &#8220;museum&#8221; look, but the garden is always full of surprises.)<br \/>\nStill, I like the way the white flowers stand by ready to gracefully accompany whatever cycles into bloom, such as the verbascum:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/?action=view&#038;current=april20tues011.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/april20tues011.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The white agrostemma defies all photographic attempts so far.  The white valerian I seeded last fall is easier to capture, mixing it up with the reseeding dwarf breadseed poppies, P. setigerum.  Centranthus ruber naturalizes locally but always the reddish color:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/?action=view&#038;current=mon41910036.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/mon41910036.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The valerian has reached the top of the 5-foot plant stand, up which I had ambitious plans to grow the vine rhodochiton.  Except rhodochiton wants nothing to do with me or my garden.  I hear it grows beautifully for Northern California.  Past time to dump out the barren seed trays.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/?action=view&#038;current=thurs41510002.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/thurs41510002.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Limelight&#8217; Miracles of Peru are reseeding lightly but pack a concentrated jolt of color into the ghostly whites.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/?action=view&#038;current=thurs41510twil008.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/thurs41510twil008.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cobaea scandens is responding to the lengthening days with more blooms.  This vine also has a white variety:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/?action=view&#038;current=47two012-1-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/47two012-1-1.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The diascia and valerian will bloom into fall.<br \/>\n<\/big><br \/>\n<em>With everything emptying into white<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(only those born before 1965 will get the song lyric reference.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A simple garden with acres of sky.
