For an artist, it&#8217;s a bottomless treasure trove of ideas.  Have a look at the &#8220;flower constructions&#8221; of <a href=\"http:\/\/anneten.nl\/\">Anne Ten Donkelaar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/sept2017\/inspired-by-flower-constructions.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo inspired-by-flower-constructions.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><small>(from &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dearestnature.com\/blog\/2012\/08\/flower-constructions\/\">Dearest Nature<\/a>&#8220;)<\/small><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;flower constructions&#8221; series of photographic images are made of paper cutouts and dried plants.  Note the pins holding the pieces in place, giving a unique 3-D effect to her work.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/sept2017\/13c07187e1fe7ecf2d103edbb4edb006ed69d1cd9a86bd3b6d89d8687476decf.jpeg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo 13c07187e1fe7ecf2d103edbb4edb006ed69d1cd9a86bd3b6d89d8687476decf.jpeg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fantastical and surreal, yes, but I love how it also alludes to centuries of scholarly collecting and mounting of herbarium specimens.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/sept2017\/bcf1671adf88ac02b0bfb65e97d73fb5c08085a1d5aa3207afead5fdd4276515.jpeg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo bcf1671adf88ac02b0bfb65e97d73fb5c08085a1d5aa3207afead5fdd4276515.jpeg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the series &#8220;broken butterflies,&#8221; again the scientific collecting of lepidoptera specimens is referenced, but poetic emphasis is placed on their inherent transformative powers, as bits of damaged butterflies are tenderly combined with other materials to make fantastical new creatures, rechristened with names like &#8220;Queen of Wings&#8221; and &#8220;Rainbow Warrior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/sept2017\/anne-ten-donkelaar-underwater-ballet-photo-series-designboom-4-818x693.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo anne-ten-donkelaar-underwater-ballet-photo-series-designboom-4-818x693.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;underwater ballet&#8221; series, dream-like images are taken of flowers that have been anchored in water, in which the flowers &#8220;<em>float gracefully around in the cold water, capturing a silent image of a spirited dance<\/em>.&#8221; (via <a href=\"http:\/\/designguru.info\/anne-ten-donkelaar-captures-delicate-flower-arrangement-submerged-underwater\/\">Design Guru<\/a>) <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/sept2017\/1505133772_anne-ten-donkelaar-underwater-ballet-photo-series-designboom-1-818x595.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo 1505133772_anne-ten-donkelaar-underwater-ballet-photo-series-designboom-1-818x595.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gardens &#8212; a perpetual inspiration feedback loop.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/sept2017\/anne-ten-donkelaar-underwater-ballet-photo-series-designboom-5-818x693.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo anne-ten-donkelaar-underwater-ballet-photo-series-designboom-5-818x693.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/big><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gardens are inspiration engines, filled with mesmerizing sights, sounds, and scents.
