It has since disappeared from the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kxLNpr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50899023543_9401c9cc06_c.jpg\" alt=\"215009\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=26578\">2012<\/a> was one of the years I planned for potted tulips.  Here in zone 10 tulips require chilling, so it&#8217;s not a last-minute kind of deal.  And the vegetable crisper gets real crowded for 8 weeks or so.  Nice cameo by little Evie!  I&#8217;m fairly sure she&#8217;s standing on a potted <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=60985\">Cussonia gamtoosensis<\/a>, one of my favorites cussonias, which grew to 6 feet in the garden then toppled.  Very shallow rooted!  Much sorrow and regret.  This week I&#8217;ve just found a source locally at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desertcreations.net\/succulents\">Desert Creations<\/a>! Lovely to see our corgi Ein and Joseph aka Joe B. Tiger!  Sedum nussbaumerianum is another succulent I haven&#8217;t grown in a while.   And we are currently on the trail of another corgi, but it&#8217;s slightly complicated so no date of arrival yet&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky8UVK\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903142837_e3ab5bd2ed_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1017330\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=37809\">February 2013<\/a>.  This scrapbook idea is helping me notice planting patterns.  Every fall\/winter I rediscover the annual linarias like it&#8217;s the first time ever.  Obviously, it&#8217;s been a standby winter annual for years&#8230;that never reseeds!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky92V6\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903166347_387d05a27e_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1017080\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>February 2013; I want to smell <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=37560\">Michelia doltsopa<\/a> again.  (Anyone reading Ken Druse&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/kendruse.com\/2019\/08\/website-story-my-next-book-the-scentual-garden.html\">The Scentual Garden<\/a>?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky8x5u\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903069336_420144ee3a_z.jpg\" alt=\"P1016254-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This was a lively and inviting family garden to visit back in <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=37448\">February 2013<\/a>, and Sadie was such a gracious host!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky9dcU\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903200962_19d2a6ba83_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1016681\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=37385\">Euphorbia lambii<\/a> from February 2013 which started sporting weird fasciations.  But now I miss this plant!  Still have the indestructible Homecrest chairs though&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky5pNi\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50902459513_5560319cf8_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1012709\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>February 2014 included a visit to the <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=52028\">Moorten Botanical Garden<\/a> in Palm Springs, Calif. during <a href=\"https:\/\/modtix.com\/e\/mwoe\">Modernism Week<\/a>, which is now an online experience February 1st through the 28th, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky9Qdm\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903322092_cff4a24244_z.jpg\" alt=\"P1013570\" width=\"640\" height=\"482\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>February 2015 I visited <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=62687\">Rancho Los Alamitos<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/naturaldiscourse.org\/About\">Shirley Watts<\/a> &#8212; so much fun touring this historic rancho with her.  I believe her brother Harvey attended the tour as well.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky9j9N\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903220966_8d068bf6c3_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1013950\" width=\"603\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Also in February 2015 <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=62817\">Banksia ericifolia<\/a> briefly graced the garden.  Current banksias in the garden are Banksia caleyi and Banksia repens, both very young.  Say no more&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky5KR4\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50902526953_ee91f71cc4_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1013855\" width=\"603\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2015 I was growing <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=62691\">gerberas with Elymus &#8216;Canyon Prince<\/a>.&#8217;  There are still gerberas in the garden but this beautiful grass is not suited for a small collector&#8217;s garden.  I planted this elymus in the hellstrip of our neighborhood park, where it&#8217;s survived on just rainfall to the amazement of the neighborhood.   I believe that&#8217;s an <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=54306\">isoplexis<\/a> leaning in on the right, which was an exciting plant in its own right for frost-free gardens before the digiplexis phenomenon eclipsed it.  All of the &#8220;plexis,&#8221; species and crosses, have been short-lived in my garden &#8212; which is not necessarily a bad thing to my way of thinking but it might be frustrating for some.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kya6nE\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903373092_326662200a_z.jpg\" alt=\"1-P1011141\" width=\"640\" height=\"482\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=71335\">February 2016<\/a> I had promising cushions of santolina, and then the cypresses grew and grew and this end of the garden became too shady.   I actually enjoy that pungent, acrid scent when clipping and shaping it into orbs.  For a similar smallish cushion effect, I&#8217;m currently growing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smgrowers.com\/products\/plants\/plantdisplay.asp?plant_id=4090\">Westringia &#8216;Grey Box.&#8217;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kyafUR\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903405177_6534ac4c29_z.jpg\" alt=\"1U6A3618\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2017 Mitch and I visited <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=76284\">Jeremy Glatstein and family&#8217;s garden<\/a> (#bixbybotanicals), which was covered in the Los Angeles Times in <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=94852\">2020 for Dustin Gimbel&#8217;s design work<\/a> on their back garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky9Lw7\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903309666_e874defa05_z.jpg\" alt=\"P1010011\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2018 I documented the discovery of <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=83104\">Euphorbia lignosa<\/a> (or maybe it&#8217;s Euphorbia stenoclada?) in a local parkway.  I still have the cutting the owner gave me, which is growing into a handsome plant, and the OG mother plant is still flourishing in the parkway.  Nice bit of continuity for both plants!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky9Wmc\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50903342731_0a7d7bb32c_c.jpg\" alt=\"P1019144\" width=\"574\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2019 I was concerned about <a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=89417\">decluttering the garden<\/a> (ha!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ky6ogU\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50902649498_57f2958b12_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0384\" width=\"640\" height=\"456\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=93965\">February 2020<\/a>, before the fence was rebuilt and the cypresses removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Onward with February 2021!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tracing the trajectory of enthusiasms on the blog since 2010, one month at a time&#8230; 2\/26\/10 &#8212; a wildflower meadow was a fleeting, transitional feature of a local medical center.
