Aralia cordata &#8216;Sun King,&#8217; slightly bug-eaten, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plantdelights.com\/Aralia-cordata-Sun-King-Perennial-Spikenard\/productinfo\/9133\/\">Plant Delights<\/a>, planted fall 2010.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve been hovering over this one, coddling it, schlepping gallons of water to it in the very back of the garden, adding lots of mulch to keep it cool.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not too sure how much shade this one will need to keep from burning.  So blindingly chartreuse, the camera picks up very few leaf details.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/2011\/59eve003.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I replaced some winter-blooming annuals in this container with this tough shrub for summer.<br \/>\nOzothamnus \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSussex Silver,\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 mimicking the columnar growth of a dwarf, silvery cypress.<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t like where I had planted it in the front garden, so will keep it potted for now.  Old, dried flowers hanging on.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/2011\/52evening013.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/may%202011\/516eve002.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Athanasia acerosa has it all, arresting foliage, great flowers to lure me and insects.<br \/>\nThese yarrow-like blooms last a long, long time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/2011\/52morn010.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This teucrium I bought last summer under the name &#8216;Fairy Dust&#8217; has been a wonderful surprise.  Planted in a dry, narrow strip, full sun.<br \/>\nHere a branch leans toward the ground, snuggling up to a cotyledon, but it&#8217;s otherwise an upright grower to about 3 feet.  Small white flowers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/may%202011\/516eve029.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/may%202011\/516eve026.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fallopia baldschuanica  &#8216;Lemon Lace,&#8217; from the knotweed family, formerly polygonum.  The silver fleece vine, for shade.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/may%202011\/516eve023.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s true, chartreuse gets a lot of play in my garden.  (Some might say <em>too much<\/em> for such a small garden.)<br \/>\nPheasant berry, Leycestria formosa, a cut-back shrub, moved closer to the hose spigot last year but still in dappled sun most of the day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/may%202011\/516eve012.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Corrugated leaves of &#8220;dinosaur&#8221; or Tuscan kale.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/may%202011\/516aft031.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Pam at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.penick.net\/digging\/?p=12025\">Digging<\/a> for giving us a chance to strut our favorite leaves every month.<\/p>\n<p><\/big><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excitement builds as this aralia shows signs of life.
