{"id":62384,"date":"2015-01-16T23:31:36","date_gmt":"2015-01-17T03:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=62384"},"modified":"2017-09-12T13:45:45","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T17:45:45","slug":"bloom-day-january-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrowingobsession.com\/?p=62384","title":{"rendered":"Bloom Day January 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><big><\/p>\n<p>It wouldn&#8217;t do to start the new year off skipping the first Bloom Day, which is technically the 15th of every month, but our host Carol (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maydreamsgardens.com\/2015\/01\/garden-bloggers-bloom-day-january-2015.html\">May Dreams Gardens<\/a>) doesn&#8217;t seem to mind slackers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1012949.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1012949.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Helleborus argutifolius, the last plant remaining, sown into the bricks against the back wall.  I pulled the others in the garden to make room for new stuff.  That&#8217;s me, the savage gardener.  It reseeds like crazy, so there&#8217;s no danger in losing it entirely.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013227.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013227.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Subtle, jewelry-like flower buds from a climbing kalanchoe that was a gift. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013230.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013230.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The flowers&#8217; little bells are the exact same slatey-grey color as the buds.  I think it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smgrowers.com\/products\/plants\/plantdisplay.asp?plant_id=3789\">Kalanchoe beauverdii<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013113.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013113.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aloe capitata a couple days ago.  The bloom was just about finished today<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/botanizeme028\/P1013254.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013254.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bocconia frutescens, the Tree Poppy, keeps sending out flowers<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013111.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013111.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bloom truss from Bocconia frutescens<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013099.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013099.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I just planted these osteospermum last week, a variety called &#8216;Zion Orange&#8217; (the name was inspired by the colors of Zion National Park)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013318.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013318.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013378.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013378.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Phlomis lanata is getting woolly with new growth, at the same time sending out occasional flowers<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013379.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013379.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lavandula multifida is rarely without flowers<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013330.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013330.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Euphorbia milii appreciated the recent rain.  Planted in September 2014<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/december2014\/P1012650.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1012650.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Grevillea &#8216;Robyn Gordon&#8217; just planted in December<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/december2014\/P1012651.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1012651.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mangave bloom spike, technically no flowers yet<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i52.photobucket.com\/albums\/g23\/botanizeme\/january%202015\/P1013229.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\" photo P1013229.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll close it out with Kalanchoe beauverdii again, threading its way along the pipe rack\/junk collector.  The hanging pot was a Christmas present, temporarily filled with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pachypodium_namaquanum\">Pachypodium namaquanum, the &#8220;<strong>Halfmens<\/strong><\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, we had the great pleasure of a visit in December by Andrew and Loree, who blogs at Danger Garden.
