The front garden is developing the low-growing, evergreen shrubby chops capable of withstanding the windy rainstorms of winter. We had a fine example of such a storm just a few days ago.
Planted much later than the back garden, even so the front garden has filled out quickly. In fact, a lot of its plants are largesse from the back garden, either in cuttings or from moving entire plants.
We’ve tentatively settled on this Thursday for a departure date to head to Southern California. Our old fleet of cars is getting cranky, so we may make the drive in the 2011 Honda Element or my old Mini Cooper, whichever seems the best bet for the 1,000 mile trip. Billie has sprained her other (nonsurgical) back leg, but an X-ray today looks promising. Complications abound! The skies are filled with V’s of geese, the farm fields with herons and elk down from the hills. We’ll catch up in Los Angeles — more soon, AGO.

Nice to see some of the front garden, Denise. I figured you were motoring along with it as your back garden is getting mature!
I’m with you on the drive issues: we had lots to bring so we drove both cars down to Los Osos this past weekend. My poor little Prius c was loaded to the gunwales – and heavily. It was a bit hairy! But you have an additional 200 miles before you’re home. Best of luck, whichever car you take!
Like Jane, I was pleased to get a view of your front garden in Oregon. Sorry to hear about Billie’s troubles. I hope your trip to SoCal is a smooth one!
@Jane, so glad you made it to Los Osos! I wasn’t sure till chatting at the WG plant sale how it was all working out! Have a great winter.
@Kris, Billie’s x-ray yesterday looked good on quick review. We’ll see if the radiologist notes a tear or other damage. We stubbornly cling to the Honda Element cuz there’s no other car so fit for our needs, but it means Marty is always deep in Youtube videos looking for answers as to why the blasted Vtech needs constant replacing…
I am so happy the residents of Tillamook are getting to enjoy your garden style. I predict your influence will spread and others will feel the pull to do something with that often ignored bit of land. Good luck with the drive! The Element is so valued by many, I’ll never understand why Honda quit making it.
@Loree, there are so many Elements in the PNW! We often wonder how they keep theirs running. Good luck with your upcoming talks. I’ll be in town for one of them some day!
Hope you have a pleasant drive and hope Billie is up and running soon.
Thanks, Elaine! Fierce winds and a tornado in Neetarts Bay knocked out power last night, but today is dawning quietly overcast — good driving weather!
Oh, I like that Fabiana. Good luck with the drive, all the details and poor Billie. You must be busy, can’t wait to catch up on your CA garden!
Ooh, the front garden! Nice to see what you have been up to. I am a little nervous waiting to see what you will find in CA. Best wishes on the drive. It’s a long one!
