A few images from local nurseries and garden tours, courtesy of that incredible team, gardeners and the month of May.
Every May this perfectly proportionate, quietly elegant iroid lures me in for close inspection. The Tasmanian Flag Iris, Diplarrena latifolia, exudes the charm and appeal that makes plants ubiquitous, yet there’s no local source for it. Xera lists it, but not currently available, and I have no doubt this specimen comes from their fine nursery, like many of the plants in the WG. Said to be easy from seed.
Have a great long weekend! More soon, AGO

The scotch moss, I want to reach out and touch it. A Wonder Garden indeed. I love the photo with the park bench and pathway, so inviting. Those Podophyllum leaves are bonkers!
Your photo of the Diplarrena latifolia reminded me that I was in Manzanita about this time last year for a talk. What fun that was. The HPSO Garden photos were a fun guessing game of “which garden?”… I think I got them all but the one with the Crambe maritima, maybe Darcy’s?
“A field of amsonias”… I love this mass planting, the sky-blue flowers are so unique. This will be a ‘must see’ vision in the fall, when the amsonias turn shades of gold and orange.
Tasmanian Flag Iris: Wow.
@Tracy, I found some of the Scotch moss locally grown by Little Prince of Oregon — it looked like that all winter.
@Loree, I don’t know how you do the soup-to-nuts tour thing. I guess I get too overstimulated by the people, the plants, staying on the paths. I need to practice focus! These were the HPSO gardens open the day of the Dirty Diggers sale.
You’re surrounded by beauty! That Diplarrena latifolia, which is utterly new to me, is spectacular.
