soon now

Some visual encouragement from my garden today and gardens I’ve visited in the past. Just in case spring still seems impossibly far away.

Spring has definitely taken hold here in southern California, although I have to admit I’d really like to see some more rain…

Kris, you and me both, but I don’t think wishing is going to make it so this year…

I tend to think of a coastal southern California winter as the climatic equivalent of a northern California spring. In any case, the possibilities seem almost endless as long as one can irrigate. Late winter/early spring has been fabulous up here now that the February rains greened up the countryside. Magnolias and now Ceanothus and Pacific Coast Iris are fabulous right now.

David, I think it’s kind of exciting to have everyone’s hand forced by the drought. I started taking out heavy water users like roses more than 4-5 years ago and just shifted attention elsewhere — sure, I miss some plants but there’s so many amazing ones to try.
