Foliage Followup

The book-end to Bloom Day, the 15th of every month, is when leaves get their due, Foliage Followup, the brainchild of Pam at Digging, who’s been regaling us in words and photos with an account of the recent blogger mash-up in Buffalo, New York.

One of the mossed orbs on a 5-foot stand. Snails rarely climb this high, or I find them in the morning when they’ve just arrived at their destination and are too exhausted to eat.
Not too sure if snails really ever exhaust themselves, but for whatever reason, these succulents go unmolested.

The variegated succulent in the upper left is an impostor, not a succulent at all, but a chunky-leaved plectranthus, Cuban oregano, growing compact and lean on a succulent diet.

Are we Sybarites, or are we really esthetes? What fabulous mixed succulents you have–mine are never happy mixed or potted. The complete lack of water might have something to do with it.

  2. I just found your garden blog today and it’s fantastic. I’ve just started my own and mostly grow foliage plants. So, is there really a foliage followup group? Sounds cool and I’d love to participate. Your plants are amazing. I’m trying not to read and see too much at once since it’s a bit overwhelming. I’m guessing you must be in zone 10 or 11, right? Here in Houston, we get some bad freezes some years, so that curtails some of our outdoor choices. Thanks for publishing such a wonderful garden blog.

Hi David — yes, I’m zone 10, Los Angeles. It seems overwhelming at first, but before you know it you’ll be blogging about your cats 😉 Can’t wait to hear more about gardening in Houston.
Hoov — good question. Your aeoniums always look fantastic, and you grow such an incredible mix of plants in general.

Shazam! I love your succulent orb. Did you say you’ve planted them in moss? More details and pictures please!

Hi Denise, I was wondering about that cool looking variegated “impostor.” Nice plant. Great photo. I love succulents too!

  7. wow thats cool – I think this is just a perfect way to show off succulents. I love the different colours to their thick rosettes. It looks as if you have some little sedums growing through aswell.
